Seriously, mate; Let us know how it gets on. Any nitty gritty, like the temperatures ye maintain, things like that, would add to this thread too Image

Hello Everyone,
Only Me! I haven`t been on here for ages so I thought I might add my little bit to the flow of words! My`3 Gall Stout` is down to 1014 (OG 1060) after 10 days in FV, should be 6,3%, I`m going to leave it 3 more days then bottle it. That`s right Ditch, I AM GOING TO BOTTLE IT! When it`s in the barrel it doesn`t last a week and the mess around my toilet bowl drives Mrs Ales round the bend! I just tasted half a pint from the FV and it`s bloody lovely mun! It is sitting next to my FV with 7.3% Golden Ale (Summer drinking session ale) and my TC 6.2% swigging cider, both ready in one week! I think Mrs Ales should get extra toilet cleaner in!

That conjured up an image I could have lived without...

Have fun (but with care if all your brews are that strong),

Ian.

Hello Everyone,
Just bottled 22 pints of `3 Gall Stout`, 2 pints used for taste testing while work in progress. I`m glowing! This stuff is Bloody Lovely Mun! It`s had half an hour warm conditioning in the kitchen, so it`s now in the outhouse for 1 hr cool conditioning, ( conditioning my @rse! What a joke! This is ready from the FV ) then as Ditch says `I`m going to get amongst it`! Look Out! =D>

Forgot to take an OG reading (again!) but the FG settled at 1.012 for a few days so just finished bottling it. Of course the last little bit in my bottling bucket is always hard to get into a bottle but not so hard to get into a pint glass :D

As for the nitty gritty, I don't have any form of temperature control so it's been a little warm in my garage but as has been mentioned on here before, the Coopers yeast is a hardy strain, doesn't seem to give a toss and just get's on with it. I've brewed a few other Coopers kits over this very warm month and they've all turned out ok.

This stout tastes amazing already but could do with a little gas (IMHO) so I've primed the 20l (or just under accounting for 'samples') with 50g of suger so a little fizz but not like a lager. I'm usually a lighter beer lover (a massive fans of the Coopers APA with added hops) but have been known to dabble in the dark stuff, usually of the Irish variety. This feels much cleaner in the mouth and I reckon I could drink a lot more of it, hopefully without the next morning after effects

Can't wait to try it after the carbination which in this warm weather should easily be next weekend.

Oh, and one more thing, as the Vicar said to the Quireboy, Nice Head! Seriously, I've just finished this pint and there's still over an inch in there (Vicar said that too!).

Cheers Ditch, this will definately be on my 'To brew again' list.

 I`ve been wanting to try the stout out for last couple of years, it wasnt until the wilko 50% offer was on I thought why the hell not go for it, brewing a 4 x batch means less clearing up. I`ll put the 50lt keg on tap and keep the other 2 20`s to mature a while. So far, drinking the FG sample =D> Might try a few of the other hop additions next time.

Cheers

Nope, havnt really brewed many kits - due to being put of them 20 years ago, when they were truely horrible (or at least I didnt get very good results), so i dont really read any posts in the kit forum.

This time on my brewing adventure, I went straight to All Grain and missed out the "new" kits completely, its only recently due to lack of equipment available / wilkos - tesco sales I`ve tried kits again, that and your thread being 71 pages long I thought I might be missing out on something.

The kits I`ve tried over the last few months have all produced very good results so far + take up a lot less time to make.

Had to double check, to remind myself what thread I was answering on then! Image Yeah. After some seventy odd pages, this thread's probably just about starting to morph and weave as smoke in a draughty room, it must be said.

Twenty years ago? Interesting. I'd have been dried out just about then. My own experience of kits harkens back, a lot further, to the 'good old days' though. Boots Bitter. Tons of white, Tate and Lyle, sugar. Bottles exploding like a drive by, in my mates wardrobe! But, by christ, did we get in a mess off that stuff?!

Way I see it? The (Western) world's moved on. We no longer phone a building, and ask if our friend is in it. We don't send Telegrams, to get a few, important words to someone the other side of the world. We don't have to gain a degree in Plumbing and Physics, to make fantastic beer at home.

Coopers just seem to be the present day pinnacle of what a modern kit can be Image
