What....... You mean I shouldn't bottle it and keep it in the fridge

Only kidding. The only ones I bottle these days are the Brewferm that need a lifetime to mature.

Edit (later on)

In the interests of health and safety I have had to draw 2 whole pints from the keg to ensure that no forced carbonation occurs and had to consume to avoid any wastage :D

Brewferm ? That's those Belgian type ones, isn't it?

Anyway; As you did your bit for health and safety; How did ye find it, at that stage? Be interesting to see what ye think of it a little way further down the line now.

I was very impressed. Its been in the keg nearly two weeks. Plenty of stout flavour but not too heavy. A nice creamy head that lasts nearly as long as the pint. Lightly carbonated, in fact absolutely spot on. Tastes even better when I remembered it was made with stuff from the Wilko's half price sale!

What's the best temperature to serve it? It was about 8 degrees C in the garage.

Hmm. I believe my store room is at about 10C, right now? Could be give or take. I didn't have my glasses on.

In here, it's 75F, as I type. The pint I've just fetched in could certainly be warmer, to be honest. It too chills the back of the palette at this temp.

So, yes, while I'm sorry to switch between C and F (I just go by what either thermometer says / reads in) I'd say 10C is yet too cold. 75F would be like a cup of f**king tea! What's 60F, in Centigrade? That seems to sound about right, from memory of drinking it at around that temp'.

I wonder if Wales and / or Wobbley happened to notice the temperatures they were best enjoying theirs at ....?

F**king great, this thread, isn't it? The more we write, the more we find we need to know! Image

60F = 15C

Personally, I like it slightly cooler than that but 10C is definitely too cold.

Just had a taste of my stout. It's gorgeous. I don't have a barrel spare to put it in right now and I can't be bothered to bottle it so I might just start drinking it straight from the FV...

It seems quite clear already but there are some solid bits floating on the surface. I think it's just yeast that hasn't settled but I'm not entirely sure. Does that sound likely?

That's dead easy to do, mate. Ye just need a syphon tube, a syphon stick, bucket clip to hold the stick in place and a tap.

What I do is; After I've poured my pint, I shut the tap. Then, I use the 'handle' of the tap to catch up under the rim of the FV lid.

See? So, ye have the lid lifted already, where the syphon's coming over the edge. Now, I turn the tube back on itself and put the tap nozzle back into the FV. Turn it in the right direction and the handle catches under the rim, holding the tap there.

Keeps it clean. Out of the way. And it negates any risk of the slightest gravitational seepage losing ye a shit load of stout while ye away enjoying a pint!

I brought it in this afternoon and put it in the utility room. Should be a better temp by now. I'll let you know in about half an hour :D
