I had a little snifter of the Youngs after seeing that pic, from something that wasnt great tasting on saturday night when it went in the FV, amazingly it has improved loads already!

Has anybody done owt like this before and can you give me any pointers.
Going to get a 1 can lager kit, probably a Pilsner style or something continental ish
Add in 4 litres of sainsbury's pineapple and mango juice £3 for 4 cartons
Check gravity and adjust upwards if necessary to around 1050 with a golden sugar or demerera
Hope for the best
and adjust on the next brew if req.
If its good then I'll be using this formula for nice range of summer fruity beers.
Is this going to be enough juice or should I turf in another couple or 4 litres. I want something that has a definite fruity flavour to it rather than just a hint you'd struggle to pick out.

thats what you call a fermentation,looks like its on steroids to me
,keep us posted on how it progresses,i went in to the HB shop today and was tempted to buy a cheaper kit and have a bit of a tinker with it but the brupaks birkby yorkshire bitter kit was shouting buy me,i gave in as the one im drinking now is a lovely pint,think im going to change this one slightly and add the hop tea bag to the keg as apposed to the 15 minute soak at the start,also gonna use the two grain tea bags from an ale flavapack in boiling water for 30 minutes,the kit as i brewed it first time is not a million miles away from black sheep in mine and my brother in law opinion,its just lacking a little bit of hop aroma and a slight bit of maltiness,but all the same tastes ten times better than a lot of the overpriced pub bitter

Amazing how fast they can improve in flavour. Well the adapted Edme Yorkshire Bitter has been kegged and I'm well chuffed as it promised a creamy head and generous mouth feel on the kit description and boy they weren't lying, the added crystal malt might have helped like, but I can safely say this is the creamiest head I've ever had on homebrew, even more so than me Fixby Gold and Geordie Mild, and very generous mouth feel as promised, beautiful. Pours just like a proper pint of bitter from the pub which is exactly what I'd hoped for. Fermentation with Windsor was pretty rapid, went from 1.042 to 1.015 in 4 days and it was on 1.014 for the 5th and 6th days so its in the keg now. Comes out at 4.3% with the 100g of demerara I've primed with. Taste-wise shows alot of promise to be a very nice pint, got a feeling this is gonna get better and better

That sounds like you ave a tasty drop of bitter to look forward to in a few weeks
,im thinking about getting a packet of Windsor yeast to use with my next Birkby bitter when i brew it.The Birkby im drinking now has nearly gone
,next brew in line for drinking is a great eastern ale which has been in the barrel just over five weeks i tried a pint last night and it is deffo the worst brew ive done its virtually tastless,cant say im a fan of any of the woodefords kits ive brewed.
That sounds like you ave a tasty drop of bitter to look forward to in a few weeks

I've got a Birkby Bitter in mind myself FURBAR for a brew in the not too distant future. Really keen to work my way through the Pride of Yorkshire range seeing as the Fixby Gold was so good. Let us know if the different yeast makes much difference as I'm keen to know. I will say however that next time I do a two can kit I will be using the yeast nutrient I bought the other day. Shame about the Woodefordes, I did a Wherry for my first brew and although I enjoyed it, it's not had me rushing back to do another of their kits, unlike the Brupaks.

Currently in the FV is a slightly mental lager Im calling Missing Person:
1 Coopers Aussie Lager kit made up to 21.5Ltr (Should have been 20 but I wasn't paying attention)
500g Light Hopped Spray Malt
1200g Brewing Sugar
2x 11.5g Saflager S-23
50g Saaz (dry hop whilst Lagering)
SG was 1054 and Im aiming for an ABV of around 6%
1 Coopers Aussie Lager kit made up to 21.5Ltr (Should have been 20 but I wasn't paying attention)
500g Light Hopped Spray Malt
1200g Brewing Sugar
2x 11.5g Saflager S-23
50g Saaz (dry hop whilst Lagering)
SG was 1054 and Im aiming for an ABV of around 6%

I've just got an experimental kit recipe going as well.
Knocked up this afternoon is:-
1 x Brewferm Pilsner Kit
500g Candy Sugar
300g Light Brown Soft Sugar
4 Litres of J Sainsbury Pineapple, Mango and Passion Fruit Juice.
Method:
Wort tipped into a couple of litres of cold water in the FV. 2 litres of the fruit juice boiled on the hob in a large pan with all the sugar added in. As soon as the fruit jice came to the boil it was tipped in the FV and the next 2 litres boiled up. Whilst 2nd lot of juice was boiling the FV was topped up to around 17 litres with cold water and the yeast started off in a jug with warm water and a little more sugar. Next lot of juice was tipped in as soon as it was boiling. Another couple of litres of cold water made up the brew length to around 21 litres and the yeast chucked in and given a quick stir. Lidded up with an airlock and put in a cool room.

I got the 'Dark Lager/Dunkel' experiment in the FV last night....
1 can Coopers Dark Ale Kit
1 Kilo Beer kit enhancer (yes, I know-using up what I have in the cupboard) :lol
500g LDME
35g Saaz hops steeped in 'french press' coffee maker for 30 mins
Brewferm Genuine lager yeast starter
Brew length 25 litres
OG: 1044
Target gravity 1008-1010
Pitched yeast at 20C at 19.30 10/03/10
By this morning the air lock was bubling away quite nicely... the temp had dropped to 16C
I anticipate that the temp will be below 15C by 19.00 tonight (so in ideal temp range within 24 hours)
Pleanty of active yeast went into the FV so I anticpate a quick(ish - for a lager yeast anyway) and clean ferment
I will post updates as we go!
