Fair enough - just bought a kit from Amazon (I know) but reasonable inc 1kg spraymalt for £21 inc delivery - I can live with that - will prob add some hops to it - may even be better than yours - haha -

I've had active brews before but not after that length of time. BTW I auto-corrected the pic in Picasa - my crappy phone doesn't have a flash.

Re: " Ditch's Stout " Master Class .....
Well I put a batch of Ditch on this Sunday. Merrily burping away. A little spew through the airlock but nothing too explosive. (I know you don't believe in them but having done 4 brews all with and they work for me). Hopefully the brother in law will appreciate it as that is what he is getting for Xmas.
One question though, I will be bottling it and wondered how much (if any) priming sugar to use? I am not a stout drinker at all but assume that a little fizz adds to the creamy head type thing.
Cheers.

I'm currently drinking a ditchs stout an my usual priming rate of the small end of a child's medicine spoon per pint bottle is perfect. What's more important IMHO is leaving it to condition, too young in the bottle = too frothy a head. The longer I leave it the creamier the head gets.

Mucknbullets; I don't prime the stuff in my BK's. Don't even use gas in it. And I prefer not to drink bottled beer
Can ye then imagine a worse person to be asking about this than me? I simply don't know.
Best advice I can offer ye is to take it to the general 'Kits Board' and ask their opinion on how to prime bottled stout. I'm sure plenty of guys out there will be happy to provide their opinions. Go with the flow

Rule of thumb -
500ml bottle - half a teaspoon of sugar
1 litre - 1 teaspoon
2 litre - 2 teaspoons
Let it condition for 2 weeks - then stick it in the fridge - otherwise you'll get a beer fountain. Any other suggestions???

Fair point Ditch. Must engage brain before typing stupid things
D'oh! Oh and thanks for recipe as not a clue about stout. Evil stuff with no bubbles in it to me.
Simco, I will take that under advisement and tell the bro in law to leave it outside. It will be conditioned for at least a month in the bottle before I let him have his pressie so should be lovely by then.
Ta muchly.
