Dark or Medium, mate. I've used both and they each suite me fine. Can't really say I have any preference.
Do you know; I now don't even bother to keg my stuff? I'll simply syphon it straight from the FV into my glass. Finish that one. Set another on the shelf and start on that. I'll drink the last after a month of sitting there, then a week with the lid gaping open. Never a problem!
And these people wringing their hands and going on about air locks wonder why I think they're a load of old women

Ian; It's Stout. Very dark beer. And, whilst, I dare say, I probably sat and gazed at my first ever poured pint? Frankly, these days, I put it in my mouth and swallow it.
I have a mate, in town whose eyes are pretty bad. I'd ask him to take his glasses off and try my stuff. See if he could taste crap. But, he's a Bud' drinker. Obviously, he can't taste crap when it's in his mouth. Sort of shoots That experiment down too.
But, no. Short answer to ye question is that I get stout. Where would this crap come from? The yeast results solidify at the bottom. There's no horizontally flying crap in the room. (Fair bit falling vertically, from the roof, granted) So, no. No discernible crap in my glass

I use medium malt in mine and it comes out fantastic.
Just brewed a batch up short (20/21 litres), but without the additional cup of sugar and kegged in a cheapo pressure barrel. I did add about 50g of priming sugar though. (Sorry Ditch).
To be honest, it has come out better than the last one I made with a cupful of sugar and about 200g of treacle, don't really know why though. Maybe the warmer weather we've been having recently, temperature might be more stable? I don't use a heater, just bung it in the wardrobe and it makes me clothes smell of ale.
Happy days.

If you do get a bit of yeast in your pint it's quite good for you, contains a hell of a lot of nutrients and vitamins that help keep your nails from falling out and your hair shiny (as well as keeping you fairly regular)Ditch wrote:Ian; It's Stout. Sounds like ye doing good there, Marty
20 Litres is standard. I personally now go down to 4 gallons as a matter of course.
Mug of sugar, in the ferment, is perfectly optional. Priming ye BK with a bit? Entirely up to you, mate. I stopped using gas because I couldn't get it. That taught me that 'flat' stout was fine by me. Anyway, I found injected gas a bit of a drama. Always seemed all or nothing. Couldn't be arsed any more.
200g of treacle? Most things would taste better without that, in my book.
Interesting that you put ye FV in the wardrobe, with clothes in there. Bit f**king risky, isn't it?
If ye hit the right temp's in there and caused a Blow and a Spew ..... Do make sure there's nothing on the floor with the FV. And nothing hanging within six inches above the thing.
Anyway; Enjoy

Mr BisBack; Without looking to check, I'm quite confident I'll have warned ~ over and over ~ on this thread about the 'Brain', 'Blow' and 'Spew' propensities of my way with this kit.

I trust the carpet came to no harm then?
I've posted enough photo's of the results one can expect, on this thread. I have one spewing, in my store room, as I type. I don't give a damn, of course. I have no carpets. Concrete floors. No women; Mad, Greek or otherwise!
Worst that can happen, here is that my Dogs lap it up, get pissed, and we all fall upon each other. What a blood bath That could bring about!
Seriously though; I think these plastic 'Trug' bucket things are now common, and cheap, enough that I should commend them to anyone trying this recipe. It just makes sense.
How did you cope, please?

Yep. I believe I suggested a Black Bag, way earlier in this monster. As ye say; Roll it up just so and it'll let ye sleep at night. After all, the normal spew hardly even amounts to a pint, in real terms. It just Looks so bad. And, of course, would be on a domestic floor.
