Whats the hop shop like

Post by delboy » Thu Nov 15, 2007 11:13 am

I was wondering what are peoples experience of the hop shop im thinking of trying them in the near future.
At present i get my brewing ingedients and equipment from H&G but a few things about the service have started to annoy me a bit. Things like not being able to brew on the day i planned because of a delay on the delivery even though i've give them well over a week. Or damaged goods received in the post for which no refund is offered.

I also must try out Barley bottoms grains and hops when he has an idea what price his MO is going to be.

Generally very good - they are a little bit more expensive than the H&G but IMO the service is better.

I use both depends on how the mood takes me but they do seem quicker in getting to you and always v. fair on delivery cost.

I gave up on H&G ages ago for the same reason as you DB plus their offhand attitude to customers, I only use them in the last resort. I've had very good service from the Hop Shop and Beertech and don't mind paying a little bit extra for that

I've never had any problem with H&G. I ordered 9kg of various malts last Thursday and they were delivered on Friday. I think that's pretty good. I've also had good service from the Hop Shop and Beertech too.

I've always found hopshopuk very good. I tend to use either H&G, HopShop or beertech depending on the availability of the items/ingredients I require.

I recently exchanged a SS air stone (I purchased the wrong size) from Beertech and the guy was really cool about it and very friendly too.

Yesterday I purchased a few items off both HopShop and H&G within an hour of each other so I'll let you know who wins the race soon.

I use both, but generally H&G more because the prices are a bit better (their Golden Promise in particular is much cheaper) and you can buy grains by the weight rather than in pre-measured bags. Plus they stock white labs.

The service at hop shop is great, plus you can get dark crystal malt.

I've personally found that the HopShop give better service than the H&G.
This is measured in terms of items ordered, time to be delivered and comms during the process.

I don't mind waiting for an item, but I don't like ringing up 2 weeks after ordering to find out the item hasn't been sent out yet....due to being too busy. Ring me up my all means and tell me, but don't just let me wait :?

I have personally found that John at the H&G is VERY knowledgeable, far more so that H at the Hopshop, but the service from the Hopshop has always been better in terms of time taken for delivery.

I've phoned the Hopshop twice recently and got next day delivery at cost, something I've never experienced from the H&G.

I've found Hop and Grape to be very accommodating, especially if you send them a crawly begging email that you really need the items for when you need them, My last order was supposed to be 10 days before shipping, but as I'd put that I was hoping to brew that weekend (I ordered on Sunday night), they said if I pleaded nicely they would get it to me, Result I got it on Friday.

H&G vs HopShop race update

Post by soilboy » Fri Nov 16, 2007 2:23 pm

48 hours after ordering received this from H&G
Hi,

Thanks for the order.

Due to the volume of orders received we are taking 2-3 days longer than normal to get orders despatched. If you have a deadline you require your order by please let us know.

Because of a problem that keeps occurring with some orders, that our web site people can’t solve, we did not receive your payment details. They have been ‘bounced’ back to you.

When your order is ready for despatch I will ‘phone for the payment details or if you have a deadline you need the order by please let me know.

Sorry for any inconvenience caused.
Haven't heard from Hopshop yet (I'm assuming no news is good news).

race update

Post by soilboy » Fri Nov 16, 2007 4:23 pm

Just had a call from from Hopshop with regards to dispatching my order. I had made a typo with my postcode. I confirmed my postcode and it sounds likes my order will be dispatched by courier asap (friday afternoon).

We have a clear race leader so far.
