beer tap
Yeah some taps have push fit 3/8" JG fittings on the back others a much smaller JG or a barb.
I picked up a worthingtons font for £4 at a car boot sale - the thing was ugly as hell but I took it apart and unscrewed the tap so I now just use the tap hand held on the end of the beer line which works quite well.

Ok, I just picked up a cheap tap (Fosters), which has a 1/4" quick fit fitting on the back. I was hoping to attach this to my (basic) Barrel, but I'm a bit unsure how to go from this back to a drum tap. Do I need to get a new tap/fitting for the barrel to allow me to do this? or is this tap any use?

Yes, it is a basic plastic barrel.
I recently fitted the above type tap to my barrel. I presume this is what you are talking about. I never thought about replacing the tap. I was thinking more along the lines of attaching the tubing to the tap.
I can have a look around the workshop for a 3/4" fitting. I have 6mm tubing, which is too small for the fitting on the tap, but I might try and take that out and fit a 6mm quick fit fitting.
