I was given 2 old boots pressure barrels - the white ones with black lids with integrated sparklet injector.
The pressure relief valves on both were damaged and I didnt want to use sparklets. I couldnt find replacement caps that would fit. The standard 4" ones are too big and the 2" ones are way too small. so set about refurbishing/modernising the barrels.
I got some new S30 valves and new pressure relief valves and new taps and fitted them and they work great.
The problem is that the lid on one of the barrels is leaking around the thread on the inside. I have tried tightening the lid, lots of vaseline and also some PTFE tape to seal but still leaks.
Are ther any other tips and tricks to seal a pressure barrel?
Cheers

Sounds like the rubber sealing washer in the cap may be knackered and spares won't now be available.

Re: Neep advice on dealing an old pressure barrel
As a last resort you could always pour hot wax around the lid
That should seal the little blighter

Re: Neep advice on dealing an old pressure barrel
I have one of the old boots white barrels, it's about 20 years old, last week i bought a standard 4" cap with s30 valve and it fitted straight on.
i thought there was only one size of those barrels.
however i did notice i never had an 'o' ring on the original lid, but the replacement 4" 'o' rings fitted in the old lid

Funny, I tried 2 differnt 4" lids and they just slipped over the threads.
I might try a new o ring or silicone sealent but I think its actually the plastic has perished and now permeable as there are lots of small holes on the inside of the barrel.
Thanks anyway

They are a 'bastard' size cap . .. some may fit most won't! You can get O rings to fit from a good LHBS though . . . Take the cap with you
