Cornies in the cold

Post by Bloozrocker » Fri Jan 08, 2010 9:13 pm

Over the last month I have filled four cornies but due to the ARTIC temperatures up here -15 last night
I probably have over charged with Co2 (just to keep seals tight )As these brews are expected to be ready from March When the ambient temperature should be much higher than now will they be too frothy?

As the temperature rises the Co2 will come out of solution, the pressure in the head space will rise and equalise with the Co2 contained in the beer, so yes you will have over carbonated beer. This is a slow process so you have plenty of time to react, simply keep an eye on the pressure and vent through the prv as the ambient temp rises and become more normal. With the correct pressure set on the reg a week or two with a steady ambient temp and you'll be ok.
