Taps

Post by PieOPah » Tue Jan 23, 2007 2:30 pm

Recently, the tap on my boiler has started leaking. There is a very small drip while the liquid inside is heating up. Once it has heated up the drip does stop.

The tap is a Drum Tap.

Would this Lever Tap be suitable considering that it is being used for a boiler?

Thanks.

Can the tap withstand the heat of a boil :?:

Thanks DaaB will have to look into taking it apart then - Much easier :)

Do you just keep unscrewing to get it apart?

The tap (same style) on my HLT started leaking a few brews back and no amount of disassembly, cleaning etc would sort it - had to bin it in the end.

Same here but not from the outlet but upwards then down the body from the cap, just a slow drip

Expansion when hot stops it :?

Yup scoobs, mine was leaking in the same manner - not through the outlet but via the top cap threads.

yeah...they do that. I've got a few dead ones lying around. Clean it..if it still does it, bin it.

I've had 2 go like that. My theory is that the heat warps the innards so that the shaft doesn't fit the cylinder properly.

When I put a tap on my shiny new SS boiler, I'll be looking for something more substantial. In fact I think there's a thread about taps for SS boilers somewhere.

How about using a Tank Connector with a Ball Valve.

Stub section of copper pipe to join them, elbow on the outlet.

mine's just gone on my HLT so it couldn't have been anything stuck under it, it's from the heat I reckon also. It went exactly like Scooby's, stopping when it got hot.

strange though that you could but one of taps in kt88mans link for less than a plastic boiler tap, I may change mine if they're that cheap from a plumber's merchant.
