smelly ring

i threw a recent brew away because it tasted awful , like burnt metal or swarf. i was just cleaning the corny out after a long soak when i smelt it . it is the o ring that seals the lid it reeks ! what can i soak it in to get rid of that smell? i think its fairly new so i shouldnt think it needs replacing .

i think the brew it affected was a bad one anyway it was thin and weak so nothing lost really. did you mean household bleach ?

the missus has intervened and boiled it in bicarb of soda for a while, it smells sweet as a flower now
