I have been given a rather battered but working chest freezer that I would like to turn into a kegerator
I have rather grand plans of cladding it in timber and having a four tap cobra font on the lid
But of course before I do any of this I need to know where I can obtain a temperature controller and more importantly how to fit the damn thing
Help
Please

I had a twin tap cobra in the top of mine and it's very heavy, found it a little difficult to get the kegs in and out etc. a support system would certainly be handy. According to RabM these chest freezers aren't as well sealed as the upright ones and you need ot seal around the corners to try and prevent corrosion of the cooling pipes. Sorry I'm not trying to put you off - they do work very well. As for temperature regulation I use a PID & SSR but concern has been expressed regarding the frequency that a regular PID switches the compressor on and off to maintain temperature, I personally haven't had any problems although I'm also not too worried about the chest freezer which I got for free

Tubby you've gotta ask yourself, how much fishing kit are you going to need to hide all that?
sounds like a fine addition to your setup though

Yes Froathy how right you are i only got 2 years out of a brand new freezer. You need to seal all the seams up inside even then the condensation still gets in to rust your freon lines. I was maybe a bit unlucky some people get 6 years or so before it's goosed. But i managed to salvage mine. I stripped an old fridge motor and cooling plate & fitted into the freezer.

You won't have a problem right up until the point when the compressor stops working.

Sorry tubby_shaw i never answered your question personally i wouldn't bother with all the work with cladding ect you may only get a couple of years before problems occur as for controllers these are cheap and do heating in winter cooling for summer.

£29 ish on ebay very easy to wire come with simple instruction. If your freezer packs in after a couple of years simply throw it out & get another old one cheap or free. Cheers
