Wouldn't it be handy if....

...someone made a little plastic hop strainer that would just plug into the back of a pressure barrel tap. :?

Dry hopping (my latest obsession  ) would be easy then.

Or maybe there is such a beast on the market already, in which case give me links!!

Could you...

...using washing machine hose parts

...remove the barbed section from a straight hose connector

and use the remaining 'nut' to hold a...

filterwasher on the back end of the tap. Don't know if it would clog too easily though :(

Also, are the materials food-safe? That's the kind of shaped thingy I was thinking about, though.

Doubt it very much...

But in my previous brewing career I used a lot of stuff that wasn't 'food grade' ... I'm still around

I have both those components! The barbed tap adapter thing is fine but the rubber washer on the filter washer does pong a bit and I wouldn't want it immersed in a brew...

Interesting ... the ones I have are all plastic, no rubber at all.

would these be of any use Jim?

I'm thinking they are from the same folk you got your sparklers from.

could you incorporate these somewhere in/around your keg tap?

Daab, good idea! And at £1 for the materials in keeping with my frugal nature!

Garth, those are the things that gave me the idea, but I couldn't think of a way to fit them to the inside of a barrel tap. They're meant to fit inside a commercial cask tap I think.

what's wrong with hops in a muslin bag? I've done that on a number of occaisions without clogging. Geting them out once the barrel is empty, even from a 2" neck barrel isnt really a hassle, just invert shake and pull..

Aye, that's the simplest solution! I've got a hop bag already as well - I used to boil with it before I found out it was frowned upon.

Just trying this in my latest brew with a ping pong ball for floatiness

...or couldnt you just attach a piece of plastic pipe, like the ones that have the float on to draw the beer from the top, and put plenty of holes in it and put a bung in the end?
