king keg lids (again)

Post by BIGTRACTOR » Fri Feb 09, 2007 3:56 pm

just been cleaning out both my king kegs ready for some brewing , i had a look at the lid of one of them and it appears to be missing something that the other has.

i'll try to explain:

if you put lid flat on table and look down onto it, right inside the valve there are two small silvery washers, with a really small metal pipe sticking out right in the middle. (you can turn the lid upside down and this whole assemblage will move)

in one lid there is nothing, just the brass of the valve and a hole. At least this has answered the problem of not being able to keep pressure with this particular keg, but can them bits be replaced or do a need a new s30 valve ? [/url]

also are these prone to fall off on king keg lids?

Hmmm, both my KK's have an S30 valve which has no moving parts. The valve viewed from the top has a locating hole where the pin in the CO2 cylinder locates and pushes against to release the gas from cylinder->keg. No sticky out posts or owt.

hmmm, a mystery andy, whether one of my kegs is a different version of the other i don't know. they did come from a completely different source. One was bought stand alone and one as part of the microbrewery beginners kits.
hopefully one of the experienced boys might enlighten us when they read this, :D cheers, matt

I'm not an expert I'm afraid, but could one of the valves be for those disposable gas cannister thingys (the ones that puncture)? I think they are the valves you get when you buy a microbrewery set, but I could be wrong.

Just to confirm what bitter_dave has posted is correct. The doo-dah with the little metal pipe thing is used for piercing the little (8gram?) CO2 bulbs when used with a bulb holder/adaptor from the microbrewey setup.
