DZR Brass Fittings

Post by TheBigEasy » Mon Feb 12, 2007 12:01 pm

Does anyone know if there any implications of using DZR (Dezincification resistant) brass fittings in brewing?
I know some people have their thoughts that brass should not be used at all but I am looking to buy some ½ nipples (long ones for a specific reason) and they are DZR brass.
Am I gonna die?

DaaB,
DZR is that very thing. If it is designed for a water supply than I suppose it should be ok. I was just worried about something from the wort attacking it. I want to use the nipple in a new Mash Tun.

TBE go for it :D
As you are well aware they are designed for drinking water and are perfectly safe 8)
The acidic nature of the wort will eventually corrode them  which is why copper wort chillers come out shiny after use BTW.
You will die of old age long before there are any ill effects from heavy metal poisoning
Copper and Zinc the two major alloying elements in brass are a necessary part of our mineral intake any way 8)
Just to put this to bed hopefully for once and for all and to stop people worrying about brass, consuming more than two pints of 4% abv beer per day will cause much more damage to brain and body
But I don't think any of us are going to stop drinking until our health noticeably suffers
