King Keg Valves

Post by Blue Brew » Sat Sep 04, 2010 9:07 pm

Could someone please let me know what valves I have on my two newly aquired king kegs. I was hoping that they were S30's but I'm not sure.

Also they look a bit corroded, is there a way to clean them or check that they are working, or do they look shot. If so I can always replace them with new S30's I assume.

Thanks

Yeah, they are a bit worse for wear!

The first is an S30 and I'm pretty sure the second one is also. Someone will be along soon to re-confirm

The first looks like an S30, but second one looks to me as if it has the pin for piercing into CO2 bulbs. The very least you'll want to do is replace all the seals but if it was me I'd replace both valves with new ones.

They look like S30s, obviously the second one has a separate pressure release valve, so is probably about 20 years old. Unscrew them, bin the old rubbers, clean the metal with a wire brush and emery cloth or wire wool, and fit new rubbers (Hop and Grape, about 40p each), smear of vaseline. Test by filling the keg with water and squirting gas in from a HB cylinder. Put vaseline on the cap threads too.

I've never seen a gas bulb valve, is that a pin in the centre or a scar on the side?

Unfortunately I've just had a crack at cleaning them up with a wire brush and one has pretty much disintegrated and the other won't budge, even with WD40.

Think I'll just order a new lid with S30 valve and a replacement S30 valve for the other lid. At least the kegs were free!

Thanks for the prompt replies as ever.

And both valves look the same by the way, there's no pin in the second one, just a scar on the valve.

Cheers

Think I'll go new caps for both and a HB cylinder, thanks for the help.
