Fridge for kegs, just a tad too low (Now sorted!)
Fridge for kegs, just a tad too low (Now sorted!)
The fridge for my new kegs is around half an inch too low, they fit in fine with out the disconnects attached.
Is there a way to remove the plastic ceiling of the fridge, as I know you can remove the plastic shelves on the door panel.
Just wondered if anyone has done this? Do you think there would be electrics in the roof section of the fridge?

Re: Fridge for kegs, just a tad too low
I've the same issue: I took the (external) top off my fridge and gently piggled away at the insulation all around the edge - no pipes going through into the top in my case (I wasn't expecting wires up there but none of them either). I'd not just assume yours is the same, though - I think some designs have a pipe running through the top, and some freezers have the (cool-side) heat exchanger as part of the internal walls so not sure if any fridges do.

Is it a chest freezer that you'll be loading from the top? If so, build a collar and drill all your holes through that.

see if these pics help.
I use a freezer, with 4 screws holding the lid on.
I took these off, then reattatched to a wood collar I build to increase the head space.

Thanks for that, i do have that exact chest freezer but its being used for food, who would have thought
The one i use is a standard under counter fridge.

sorry Chris, just realised I mis-read your post.
I didn't spot the thing about the fridge top, that won't be much help to you then.....unless....

Managed to sort out my problem.
One the base of the fridge there was around 2 inches of foam insulation which i cut away and the kegs fit fine now. Had to take a wee bit away from one side but looks like i can just fit 4 kegs in there.

if not, give the missus the fridge back as it is now for extra brownie points - not!
on a more serious note, do the disco's now fit on top OK now?

Yeah they fit pretty well. Gonna install the taps tonight and clean up the inside a bit.

do u think the beer line is long enough?
Re: Fridge for kegs, just a tad too low (Now sorted!)
only one way to find out!
depends on your keg pressure, but most likely no.
It's the 3/8th's I think you are using there, so check for excessive foaming.
If that's the case loop a couple of meters in there and try again.
It's a bit trial and error with diameter of hose, length, and co2 pressure.
I step my hose down t0 5/16ths to my taps and that helps.
