That fridge thing caught me out too! Spent AGES trying to find that fault.

Both were right. Anything I plugged into the trailing sockets didnt turn on ... suggesting no power. Yet, when I tested the live in each trailing socket it showed that power was getting to it!

The solution ... by mistake I'd wired the live wire to the earth terminal in each of the traling plug. Ooops. That'll teach me for wiring it with one eye on the TV.

All fixed now and working great. Thanks for all the help. :)

I am not a religious person but

Thank God that you found out before you killed yourself!

There is absolutely nothing I can think of doing with the mains which could be so dangerous...

I hope everyone takes note - check, check, check and check again before connecting up anything to the mains!

(And buy yourself a cheapo DVM to at least check the earth continuity http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/LCD-Digital-Multi ... 5ad80fd958 - is £2.15 too much to save your, or your child's life?)

Eeeek!!    Really glad you got away with it, Chunk, that was close!

+1 to befuggled's thoughts. I also feel that I should point out; If anyone is reading this who is a tad uncertain about wiring/testing safely (and IMHO its wise to be realistic rather than optimistic in this) the ATC800+ is available pre-wired. Its more expensive of course, but theres less chance of anyone dying.

Cheers,
