CO2 Cylinders in Scotland

Post by Mattzm » Thu Sep 13, 2012 1:36 pm

Hey folks, I've recently acquired myself a rather nice Corny keg and want to start using it as soon as I can (of course!) but I'm having real trouble sourcing a CO2 cylinder anywhere near me. I'm in Fife if that helps but if someone knows of a place in the Highlands that's fine too as I've got family up there.

It's really quite perplexing. I visited Russell Gas in Edinburgh and the guy was extremely evasive about it and pretty much just asked me to leave the shop stating that it was for "licensed premises only". CO2 is about as safe as you can get when it comes to cylinder gases so I didn't think there were any real restrictions on who can buy it/own it etc, especially not for a little 3kg or so cylinder. BOC are wholly unreasonable in price and AirLiquide refuse to deal with me because I'm not a company of some kind. Anyone have any suggestions?

Hi I'm in Glasgow and get CO2 no problem from Glasgow , is that too far ? I'll have to check the company name when I get home on Sunday but i pay something in the region of £15 for 14kg plus deposit for the cylinder

do you look like a hippy? only co2 can be used to enhance the growth of certain plants and some retailers get very paroniod that there goods might be used for illegal activatys

Haha, no, I look like a respectable young man. Strange thing to be paranoid about when they can't actually be prosecuted for it. It'd be like worrying about their propane cylinders being used in arson.

Glasgow is a a bit far out of my way at the moment given my lack of personal transport, though that may change soon so we'll see. Sounds like a good price, though my cylinder would probably be a lot smaller since I'm limited to a standard size freezer.

Allsons are good but dont expect startling customer service when you appear in buckhaven as for where to buy cornies i had a couple from norm ex ebay still not been used in anger due to various house moves etc .

Got a couple of standard plastic barrels in good order if you need those at modest cost
