Spray Plate Stainless Steel

Post by barneey » Sat Nov 24, 2012 8:54 pm

Following a PM from Darkonnis, I thought I would try a stainless spray plate device, made by another member on here "eskimobob".

I`ve tested the little device today with a 15mm pipe and pump and it produces quite a good result. (similar to the plastic ones you can buy - but more heavy duty)

It could be used for a few apps from sparge to wort aerator, if its not against the rules EB

Awesome! I'm glad it was worth a mention. I'll have to add it to that ever growing list of stuff I need, gonna have ot start brewing again first though before I buy anything else!

That looks a good bit of kit =D> I was thinking of making something to try and agitate the wort before dumping into the fermenter.

I use the plastic one from Hop and Grape to aerate the wort as it transfers to FV (gravity fed). Works well.

Thanks for the mention barneey - glad you like it 8)
Blimey! those pics make it look the size of a dustbin

A few people have said recently that I should tell people here about them but I don't actively contribute here very often now so it felt too cheeky to pop up just to do that

That's what I do with mine Deller12. I attach it to the output of my counterflow so it causes plenty of splashing for wort aeration. I know Vossy uses one as a return manifold in his HERMS and when pumped like that, it does cause a pretty effective spray pattern.

Anyway, glad they are helping others 8)

There are two sizes - one 10mm is designed to fit 10mm outer diameter tube (stainless tube is readily available in this size) and one 15mm designed to fit 15mm outer diameter tube (e.g. standard 15mm copper tube).

They both have a screw which allows them to be "nipped up" onto the tube so either can be used with smaller tube than they were designed for. I have seen them used on plastic tubing too and also with a piece of plastic tubing user to make a 15mm one fit a smaller tube (i.e. the plastic tube acting like a collar).

Hope this helps 8)

Well...kinda ;) I was really asking about the cheaper plastic ones, If I bought a stainless one I think the weight of it would pull the tubing off my boiler tap (I run an all-plastic set-up  )

Oh sorry, I didn't realise you meant the plastic ones. I've not got a plastic one so can't be sure but as far as I know, the hole in the middle is smaller than 10mm so you'd need tubing smaller diameter than that so you can push it on.
