Wattage of Tesco value kettle elements?

Post by DC » Wed Jun 12, 2013 11:54 am

Hi all, I am thinking of upgrading my current boiler to a nice shiny Boil Pot and was wondering about what wattage elements to buy for say a 70L pot? I am currently using 2 Tesco value kettle elements in my 60L plastic boiler and they seem very adequate for boiling up to 10 gallon batches I am just wondering what wattage the Tesco value kettles are? So I can get some sort of idea of what wattage elements to buy for my new shiny boiler upgrade?

Cheers DC

have a play with the water heating time calculator on here. I've found it pretty accurate and you can model different scenarios.

Hi Oakwell, Cheers for the heads up about the water calculators, I have had a quick look and they look great but I actually need to know how many watts a Tesco value kettle actually is before I can start looking at water heating calculations.

My Tesco kettle elements are about 2 years old not sure if they have changed wattage over the last few years or so :?: Come on Tesco element Guru's some one must know how many watts a Tesco value kettle is?

Cheers DC

The ones I've got, which are about the same age as yours, are 2.4 KW.

Think the idea may have been that if you know how long yours takes then you can work it backwards to find the wattage?

Hi Martin G, thanks for the heads up about the working out the wattage by reversing the boil times etc, very clever indeed. But I haven't measured any boil times lately.

If you've got a multimeter, you could measure the resistance of the element, then do: P = (230^2)/R (from P=V^2/R)

the water heater calculator should give you what you need.
