Flow meter for wort oxygenating setup

Post by Cpt.Frederickson » Sat Sep 21, 2013 11:26 pm

Does anyone know where I can get a flow meter for use with a disposable O2 cylinder? I've got the oxyturbo one that gregorach uses, but I think that cole parmer have extortionate shipping so wondered if anyone knows of an alternative?

i dunno .. but a fish enthusiast pal talks about getting an o2 system for some of his tanks so perhaps thats another forum to look for items that dont carry a 'medical premium'

I would steer clear of medical suppliers, i recently enquired about the cost of a 3m length of silicone hose from a 'cheap' medical supplier tube of a dimension that was popular with home brewers but has gone out of favour, and the online shops with it listed at circa £5 a m had no longer available signs up. (3/8" id platinum cured hi grade silicone tubing)... the medical supplier wanted £200 +vat and pnp for 3m!!!! granted a bit cheaper than a whole drum from a dairy hose supplier but!!!!! me thinks piss was being taken.

I might very well have a flow meter that could be adapted with a few hoses, I`ll have a look later.

I had a moan to C-P about their postage costs, this was their response (dated 18/1/13):

"I am sorry you feel our delivery charges are high; our research shows that for most of our customers a timely and traceable delivery is most important; we therefore offer a traceable service from UPS on all goods, which incurs a minimum shipping charge. This charge is the same for all delivery in UK mainland up to 25kg and below £250 in value. Customers can also arrange for items to be collected from our Hanwell warehouse personally or by using their own courier services. Another alternative, when ordering small low value items, is to specify £5 Royal Mail delivery. However, please note that we do not encourage our customers to use this alternative, as with Royal Mail your item cannot be guaranteed. "

Make of that what you will.

meh, i'd just organise my own courier, it isn't too difficult. Parcels to go , or even some of parcel monkies servies do not require so much as a shipping label.

Cheers all.
Darkonnis, I'm looking into this but I'm finding it a bit confusing. Any more pointers? Most companies seem setup for the 'ebay' market, collecting from me and delivering to someone else. Wondering how to get them to collect from there and deliver to here...

Bloody Cole Parmer shipping.

So, just tried to use this voucher code that Mr. Mills very kindly provided.
1. Couldn't use it on the website because there were too many digits to type.
2. Called to complete the purchase over the phone as advised by Mr.Mills. Turns out the sales staff were physically present, yet mentally absent if you get my meaning.

Honestly, Cole Parmer have been pretty bloody useless from the beginning when they invoiced me rather than answer the questions that I asked them. Never have I experienced such ineptitude.

In the end! Took a few emails and eventually Hadas, who arranged the offer, sorted it out. Just ended up as an extra hassle. Always frustrating when you speak to someone who can't understand a simple request so you end up going to their boss and it gets done.
In reality, I'm probably (definitely) just a grumpy b*stard. Still, flowmeter for £18.50 isn't bad. Can't say I'd recommend their service overall though.

In fairness, I don't think they're really set up for dealing with punters as such. I'm sure if you have a multi-million pound budget for your international centre of research excellence then they're much better. Personally, I've always been kinda surprised that they deign to deal with us at all.
Cheers
