CO2 Regulator Help

Post by Chunk1234 » Tue Dec 17, 2013 1:15 am

I've got a micromatic CO2 regulator that looks almost identical to this:

http://www.micromatic.com/draft-keg-bee ... d-642.html

The only difference being that mine has a screw fitting on the out rather than a barb.

I've just dropped my CO2 canister with regulator attached off a platfrom about two foot high. The impact was all onto the pressure gauges - which are now both completely knackered.

I guess I've got two options now. Either buy a whole new regulator or buy and fit some new pressure gagues.

I was originally planning to buy a whole new regulator because I'm a bit nervous about using the old one if it's damaged inside. Any views? The main body of the regulator is scratch free and looks fine. Is it too risky to use it or am I being over cautious?

If I were to just replace the gauges, can anyone help me find what I'm after please? The micromatic site only shows replacement gauges with NPT thread sizes and all the listings on ebay are in NPT. Here's what I need from the micromatic site:

What about using a refurbishment service and a retest, if you're worried about damage?
haven't used them but maybe u could track them down?

replacement gauges are on ebay but the threads are probably sealed with something.. i had to change the feed hose from the bottle on mine and needed a long lever (4ft) and very snug wrench just to break the thread seal and get it started turning, came so close to rounding the fitting too. best bet imho is a new reg, circa £30 where you could spend £20 on new guages inc pnp via ebay and just get frustrated, see if u can budge the old gauges first?

Thanks for the refurb tip. I've emailed that ebay user.

Gauges came out fine - no probs. I'm eager to keep the one I've got if possible because it's micromatic, has saftey release valves, is side canister mounted and has a screw out rather than a barb. Most of the ones I'm seeing on ebay fail on at least one of those criteria.

It looks like replacing the gauges is a piece of piss ... you just need to know enough to make sure you buy the right one. Which I don't. :P

Also worth bearing in mind that those replacement gauges might not line up properly when you screw them all the way in :?

use the current ones as a guide, my weldeers reg on the bottle side reads 0-400bar
and on the output side 0-7 bar they also have a psi scale 0-6000psi on the bottle side and 0-90 psi on the output side.

I would imagine its a 1/4" bsp thread (circa 13mm diameter)

perhaps not this particular gauge but the seller welcomes emails with requirements? might be worth an ask?

edit lets put the link in then ..

good luck..

ps seal the threads with gas tape and dont turn back on the thread to line up without re-taping the seal.
