Another change to sodastream bottles?

Post by koomber » Thu Feb 20, 2014 4:57 pm

Just bought some of replacement soda stream cylinders for my setup. I have an adaptor that worked perfectly to take the 'new style' sodastream to a gas regulator, and like I say it functioned very well the last time I used it. When I screwed on the cylinders this time it just vented gas from between the adaptor and the bottle. From memory, the previous cylinders I had a flat pin on the top to vent the gas where as these ones have a more visible pin that protrudes out. Has anyone encountered anything similar or aware of any new changes to the soda stream cylinders.

I moved to pub gas a year ago so haven't used my sodastream adapter for a while, however the last time is used it I had the same problem.

When I looked inside the adapter I found that the rubber washer had worn down so much that it wasn't forming a seal (in fact it had effectively been crushed down against the aluminium adapter and there was little left of it). I managed to fix it with a cheap replacement from a plumbers merchant which I cut down to fit. It worked fine afterwards.

AFAIK there are two types of cylinder. One with a thin, tall pin and one with a wide, flat pin that fills the recess. I know that people who refill the cylinders themselves can only use the tall, thin ones so it might be something to do with the pin but definitely check the washer.
