I've just been having a quick look at alibaba, and on page 1, came across the grandly named Guangzhou Panyu Chutong Kitchen Equipment And Hotel Utensils Company. They make all sorts of kitchen equipment.

Minimum order is only 1 pot, with a good variety of sizes. I've added volumes in litres to the table below for reference.

Code: Select all

TYPE SIDE(mm) BODY THICKNESS(mm) Volume in Litres
61B16	360*360*3.0	1.0 36L
61B17	400*400*3.0	1.0 50L
61B18	450*450*3.0	1.2 71L
61B19	500*500*3.0	1.2 98L
61B20	550*600*3.0	1.2 142L
61B21	550*550*3.0	1.2 130L
61B22	600*600*3.0	1.2 169L
61B23	600*700*3.0	1.2 197L
61B24	600*800*3.0	1.2 226L
61B25	700*700*3.0	1.2 269L
61B26	700*800*3.0	1.2 307L
61B27	800*800*3.0	1.2 402L
It'd be interesting to see a review of the quality of the pots, and some prices.

These look like the "High End" pots that mrlard sells for £150 each.

Ali is fine. In fact it wins on every level except the shinyness factor.
Cheaper.
Easier to drill.
Better heat conductor.
Easier to seal (typically 3mm thick)

And because it's less shiny you can brew naked and still take piccies of the kit.
Oh. Is that just me then?

Been looking at a few suppliers on Alibab (with minimum order no more than 10).

Was about to buy 6 from the french but had the same email stating they dont supply them, here anymore.
Just as I move house which happens to have a huge workshop!

Anyway I'm still looking at 100L stockpots. I cant really afford them at £80ish each for 6. Bit more than I had budgeted for.

Also, for brewing purposes, what's the main difference between 201 and 304SS? I know 304 is marine grade and less corrosive. And I think I heard easier to drill and such, but is 201 a no go for brewing?

Iv'e also enquired about Ally pots too, as if thier cheaper, I'm not too worried about using them. I'm sure they will last as long as I will need them for.

Just as a rouch point, so far Ive been quoted $75usd for a 304 98L, and $42usd for a 201 100L

And then shipping costs...

Actually, 316 is marine grade, 304 is perhaps more common as it's cheaper. Not really heard of 201, but here's some info -

A fine beer may be judged with only one sip, but it's better to be thoroughly sure.

And then import duty too? It would be interesting to know what all the extras were - has anyone purchased kit like this from China?

i flew in 6 pots a couple of years ago as sample
i was going to do something similar to mr lard and crew, but ended up in Malaysia on contract.
so they just sat in the shed
i never got import duties as these were samples
shipping was paid for air freight as i wanted samples quickly

check prices are all inclusive
i had a price to port, then they changed terms and said i had to pack into the container

i got thermo pots aswell, nice quality, but sizes are sometimes erratic

I think thats price per pot. There are carriage fees, and I also think import fees for when they arrive at port for handling and what not.
May not be cost effective for smaller quantities.

May have to but the bullet and splash out on 6 100l's from Mrlard

Ok, I contacted a couple of people, and tried to order a sample or two.

the cheapest shipping they quoted me was $180usd per item!
