Fermentation fridge
Fermentation fridge
I am in the process of putting together a fermentation fridge and have ordered an STC1000. I already have a cheap apparently 80W heat belt and am wondering if this would be sufficient as my heat source or should I get a tubular heater. My fridge will in the beginning at least be stored in a garage. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Fermentation fridge
the belt heater should be fine, the tube heater i and many others use is only 60w
wrap the probe against the FV wall behind some insulating material about 3" away from the belt heater imho, too distant from the heat source and you may overheat the beer closest to the belt before the change registers at the probe point.
And if i were you i would still mount a small fan in the fridge as it will improve the cooling efficiency as its the air thats going to be effecting the cold input you apply.

Re: Fermentation fridge
Thanks. Will look into sourcing a fan. Hopefully temperature controlled brewing will be a significant improvement.
Re: Fermentation fridge
+1 on the fan - I fitted a simple 12v fan above my heater (on Fils advice- ta mate) and it defo stabilises the temperature better. Fan cost me 2.50 off Fleabay and runs fine off a hacked old phone charger - a very cheap and simple upgrade!
