This is now experiment 7 - see the update in the original post.

The temperature control with just the heater is amazing! - keeps the beer within a range of 0.06°C. Although the beer never made it to the target temp - but this could be mitigated for by setting a higher target.

Could only be done when ambient temp is lower than target too - obviously!

Any other set-up suggestions to test??

I would be interested to see how they respond with a fan, I installed one with a brewpi and my compressor kicks on now for shorter periods less frequently. I would be curious what impact that had in terms of swing.
I have a tube heater on a large larder fridge also with an stc but have no fan installed yet.

A fan would be useful in a large situation for multiple fermenters with similar target temperatures.
The STC can read only one of these though!
