Getting a new malt mill for my birthday -- any suggestions

Post by billvelek » Wed Sep 13, 2006 4:00 am

Glad to see that I was able to log on to the new system.

My birthday was last Saturday and I received a gift certificate to our local homebrew shop, plus enough cash to get probably any malt mill I want (with a note from my kids that that is what they want me to buy with it). I've been looking at a triple roller at, IIRC, CranknStein, but my options are obviously completely open at this point. Anyone know if it's worth the extra money to go with a three-roller mill versus a two-roller mill?

Thanks.

There's also the barley crusher ( http://www.barleycrusher.com/barleycrusher.php ). I emailed them recently and they said they'd ship airmail to the UK for $154 for the one with the 7lb hopper or $194 for the one with the 15lb hopper. So, assuming VAT on that thanks to nice Mr Customs and Excise the actual UK prices should be about £110 and £125.

Obviously you can't get that at the local HB shop. The JSP maltmill is over £200 over here but H&G sell the morebeer.com 'Grain Gobbler' for about £135 IIRC.

FWIW I don't own a mill right now though I'm planning on getting one. I used to have the PhilMill but I didn't like it much. I found it hard to get a good crush between either not crushing enough and making barley flour.
