mounted thermometers

Post by bod » Mon May 22, 2006 6:14 pm

now i know we slag the americans for their gear lust, and i'm guilty of it too.... but since i'm building these converted keg kettle/boiler things, i thought i might as well go the whole hog! :D

anyway, i'm planning on mounting a dial thermometer on the boiler, that has a probe that sticks into the keg by a few inches. i've seen a few mounted in the middle and the bottom of the boilers, but where do you think would give the best reading, as heat rises in the liquid?

was planning on the one from http://www.johnsonvalves.co.uk/Data/16_Thermometers.pdf but i see the hop and grape have the brewmometer, but its 30 quid and only in silly american temperature ranges.... ie: not celcius.

dunno how much the johnson valves one is, but i doubt its 30 quid!

I've seen pictures but I still can't figure it out

How do you mount a stem thermometer into a boiler without it leaking??
