50 lt Thermo Pot - False Bottom
50 lt Thermo Pot - False Bottom
Hi All,
I am in the process of upgrading my MT from an Igloo to a Bergland 50 lt thermo pot and I should be grateful if you could comment on the best FB I should go for?
I have read that the Blichmann FB (15 gal version) in a good option, though a bit pricy, or will a standard perforated holed sheet version would work just the same?
Thanks.

Re: 50 lt Thermo Pot - False Bottom
Have you looked at HomeBrewBuilder or Angel HomeBrew?
They both offer FB's IIRC and will be cheaper than a Blichmann.

I used a stainless steel tray (called 'groggy') from IKEA and punched lots of holes into it. Fits perfectly in the 50 litre pot and works very well.

Re: 50 lt Thermo Pot - False Bottom
I went for the brewbuilder custom-cut false bottom. Once I'd priced up the parts to make my own the difference in price for the Mr Lard's was sufficiently small that I felt the price was worth the time it would save me.

yep brewbuilder custom-cut false bottom look nice did they know size for bergerland 50 ltr thermo pot also do you have a seal around false bottom to stop scratch sides of thermo pot

Re: 50 lt Thermo Pot - False Bottom
They knew the size for my 80l pot so I'm sure they'll know the right size for the 50l pot. I dropped Mr Lard an email beforehand just to make sure.
What I received was a perfectly-sized perforated stainless disc with a whole load of stainless bolts through it to form "legs". Each of the bolts has an "acorn" nut on the end so it's actually the rounded head of the acorn nut that rests on the mash tun base. In the centre there's a "ring" for lifting the false bottom out and a removable silicone seal around the edge to prevent scratching of the sites of the tun.
Because the pot isn't perfectly circular at the top I found it's a little snug when putting the false bottom in, but once in place at the bottom it's absolutely perfect.

Re: 50 lt Thermo Pot - False Bottom
The default size of up to 399mm is an exact fit for the 50L Thermo Pot, I have one. Just mention it's the 50L Bergland Thermo Pot. Yes it has a seal of beer line around it.tazuk wrote:dam i notice they only have e mail no contact number thats a bit stupid

Send him a reminder, or just buy it. If you leave a note with the order telling him it's a 50L Bergland Thermo Pot he does know what you want
Best wishes
