I have an 80l Bergland thermopot to convert into a mash tun. I'd just like to compare my measurements with someone else if possible, before I order my false bottom from Mr Lard...
I measure the diameter near the bottom as about 447mm. I was planning to run a split beer line around the edge of the false bottom so it doesn't scratch the sides of the pot when I lift it out, so I need to allow perhaps 4mm off the diameter for that. So it's not a tight fit and lifts out easily I'm tempted to knock off a couple more. If there's a 1mm gap all around the edge when it's in place that's hardly going to be the end of the world and if it really bothers me I can push the beer line out to take up the space.
So, 440mm diameter seems like a good reasonable size.
Does that seem sane?

80l mash tun false bottom size
Re: 80l mash tun false bottom size
Those thermopots are not known for being perfectly circular. I made a template and got it cut to the template. You could fit split beer line to the template to check it will still fit when fitted.JamesF wrote:I have an 80l Bergland thermopot to convert into a mash tun. Doesn't sound much like the famed German engineering that we're used to. Do they contract the manufacture out to Volkswagen or something?

They are made in China. Like everything else.JamesF wrote:Doesn't sound much like the famed German engineering that we're used to. Do they contract the manufacture out to Volkswagen or something?

Re: 80l mash tun false bottom size
When I ordered my false bottom from him I just asked him to cut to size for a 50l thermopot, he sells the pots aswell so imagine he's knows the sizes.
Mine came with a rubber seal around the edge and was a nice snug fit.

Re: 80l mash tun false bottom size
Well that would make it easy. I'll drop him an email to check.

Re: 80l mash tun false bottom size
Mark aka Mrlard knows the measurements, the one he sent me for my 80l tun is the perfect size... iirc i measured the diameter at 443mm

Re: 80l mash tun false bottom size
Ordered last week, arrived this morning
It's a bit tight through the top of the mash tun (probably because it isn't as circular as it could be), but fits very nicely at the bottom.
Time to crack on with the rest of the conversion now.
