Dripping tap on barrel

Post by bitter_dave » Fri Jun 09, 2006 11:50 am

I've just noticed my budget barrel, which contains my most recent beer, has got a dripping tap when fully closed :( . If I leave it too long I'll loose the precious nectar :( :( I saw a puddle for the first time yesterday, but thought nothing of it as I'd taken a crafty test slurp and assumed a spillage. Strange how I didn't spot a spillage earlier. The ground in my outhouse is not 100% flat, would this make a difference?

The barrel is secondhand but I tested the pressure etc before using it.

What should I do??? I have an empty king keg I could transfer it to.. any advice for how to do this without problems... will I need to reprime?

Thanks Daab :) , I think I've got a tap-angle at which it seems to have stopped dripping. Have put a fresh glass underneath the tap and will check in a bit to see if it has worked.

How ridiculous is making a barrel tap that doesn't work properly when fully closed  ??

I look forward to trying to get the optimimum tap angle after a few beers :stun

Btw, if I put the barrel on it's side, surely the beer would touch the valve nut, which would contaminate the beer?

cheers Daab :)

I did steralise the cap and ring, but wasn't sure what to do with the nut so left it. Not had a problem with doing this so far, I think  , so will keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best. Next time I'll boil it as you say.
