Connecting to a Schrader Car Tyre valve? DIY help please
I have a couple of stainless Tyre valves I use to top up a small Keg or pressurise beer in a 1litre PET bottle.
The problem is connecting a line to them, the ideal is a " no loss air chuck" but they are expensive.
I don't want to use a Co2 bulb type Tyre inflator I want to use a line from my bottle with a semi permanent connection.
One that I could at least leave on over night and remove without loosing the gas from my Keg or bottle.
I think I need something that will press the valve core down to let gas in but that I can pop off so the core snaps shut.
Any suggestions?
Thanks aamcle

Not the "no loss type" to which you refer but only 99p from a certain auction site
Make sure you buy the 8mm one, forces nicely into 3/8 beer line with the aid of a boiling water soak.
I don't leave mine connected overnight but instead force carb at 30 psi and agitate during.
NB chilled beer takes the CO2 far more readily.
Remember to have the gas flowing before you connect and to leave the gas flowing when you disconnect to avoid any chance of backflow back up into your regulator.
wastes a bit of gas but that's cheap compared to a Reg.

I have that type, as you say its good but not quite what I want.
I'd prefer to have the option to leave it on.

If no better solution presents itself, could you add a small ball/lever/shut-off valve in line?

I was thinking about adding one of these to the gas line.

I can use Corny disconnects, I have 4 but the fancy carbonating caps are a bit pricey.
Is it possible to fit a Corny post to a plastic barrel cap?

This should connect to a keg I would think - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Gas-Ball-Lock ... SwFGNWRbLh
Don't know if you've seen these also? - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Beer-Brew-Hom ... 1907653741

A fine beer may be judged with only one sip, but it's better to be thoroughly sure.

I gone for a slight comprise i.e. the cheapest way, Stainless Tyre valves and a small ball valve behind the air chuck.
I can't leave it connected so it slows things down a little.
It works like this -
Set the reg to say 10 psi and pressurise the bottle or barrel. Maybe 30 on a pet bottle.
Next day do it again and so on.
When the pressure doesn't drop its carbonated.
Obviously the pressure needed depends on how many volumes I want and the beers temperature.
I've acctualy done it that way before but connect and forget would be lovely.
If you don't mind taking your time it is possible to force carb in a plastic Homebrew barrel but your inevitably limited by the barrels Max working pressure. Just as you are if you add sugar and carbonate naturally.

Was thinking about this again today, working backwards towards the Reg, I recon you can get a decent seal with 3/8 beer line onto the car tyre valve stem <> 7.7mm, then from the beer line onto a ball valve, and finally another length from the ball valve up to your reg, all you need to do is remove the core from the valve so the gas can get in without needing to depress the core.
You could leave this permanently connected and just shut off the valve and remove the pipe from either the reg or the ball valve when you want to put the bottle in the fridge, not the prettiest solution & would require a valve per bottle but it would certainly fill your criteria.
Or
You could get hold of a piece of delrin or similar plastic bar, turn down one side to take your beer line, drill a hole into the other side & with a X cut in the top of an old valve stem tap your own thread into the plastic, (getting hold of a tire valve thread tap at .302 and 32 tpi. is virtually impossible).
A small ball bearing in the hole would be all you would need to depress the valve core. ( you'd maybe have to slot the delrin face to allow gas past the ball if the pressure alone doesn't do it)
Or
Use a bicycle tyre inflater schrader adapter, and graft a bit of airline onto that.
Neither of the last two, being screw on, would be quite as quick a disconnect as a push on so you'd always loose a little, but you could always top up the head space with CO2 again with the air chuck you already have.

Unless it Pops Off I found I was loosing to much pressure from my bottles.
I tried a bit of tube and a clamp but I always seemed to loose pressure when I removed it.
A way of leaving the valve core in would be the thing, I don't have machining facilities any more so making delrin adapters is not an option.
