Post by Deller12 » Mon Mar 21, 2016 9:38 am

Morning Gents,

I have been trying to locate some Baker style elements made from stainless steel.

Have any of you guys found a supplier ?

Thanks in advance

It would be 26A so a 32A socket would do it like this http://www.screwfix.com/p/abb-surface-s ... ip44/9990f anyway they aren't baker style are they? I thought baker was like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AC-220V-1-5KW ... 0913584715

I have a 30 am supply in the garage so plenty of juice.

I really need stainless elements that can fit in a 40mm hole.

Aside from a couple of odd-ball low wattage types, I don't think I've ever seen stainless backer-style/kettle elements - all those I know of are plated. 'If' the plating is good quality they can last for a great many years (my old round-plug backers certainly did). The challenge is telling in advance though... there seem to be a lot of cheaply made ones out there that give people grief in a number of ways.

The stainless and incoloy elements I've seen or used have all been other types, such as 2.25" BSP immersion elements (or Mr lard's much smaller hole type). Personally I prefer these over the IEC kettle plug types, which seem slightly less suited to our somewhat industrial type of use even if the correct hot-condition connectors are used. Though my next build needs low profile elements so it will use burco-stylee bottom mounting ones, which sadly are plated (although still have decent spade connectors).

Before my Braumeister, I used a 70L stock pot with two of these fitted from this place. The plastic 'shroud' is the only weak link, so get a stainless shroud from Brew Builder or Angel. A quick 'oxi' clean after use and they come up nicely. Deffo not stainless but it does appear the coating is of a good quality.

Strangely the only kettle style elements I have seen that specify they are stainless are the cheap ebay ones from China like I linked to above
