Co2 regulator problem

Post by Ren » Thu Oct 27, 2016 5:41 pm

Hello!

My co2 regulator seems to have a problem. I adjusted pressure to 10 psi but after 2 weeks I heard a hissing noise so checked it was at 25 psi and pressure release valve on it was releasing pressure. It has happened twice and I have lost 2 co2 bottles now.
Has anyone had this problem before?

Heres link to the co2 reg http://www.angelhomebrew.co.uk/en/keggi ... lator.html

Thanks

That seems odd; I don't have that regulator but the angel description says it works up to 60psi, so the pressure release valve shouldn't be venting down at 25psi. That sounds like a fault with the PRV to me.

The other potential concern is why the pressure rose. It could just be that the beer wasn't quite finished when kegged and has created more CO2 in the keg (and/or has warmed up since kegging). But it can also happen where a regulator leaks/malfunctions and starts to let cylinder pressure through, in which case a suspect PRV is not very reassuring.

My guess is that its most likey to be just a leaky PRV. BUT these things are potentially very dangerous if they fail so as 'something' isn't right and the pressure rose, I personally wouldn't use it unless I knew for certain that wasn't due to the regulator failing. If its reasonably new I'd contact angel homebrew about it, they seem to be quite good on customer support.

Yeah, really odd. I checked lines and discovered a little bit of liquid in them, not sure if its beer or star san, so I took the regulator apart but it was clean and dry. I am not really concerned about safety because kegs have prvs on them as well. I suspect its fault of the regulator, because it's quality seems very cheap, compared to micromatic or even welders regs. Might need to invest in better build reg.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

On a closer inspection it had a leak where prv is screwed in, so I added some tape and screwed it back in, and it fixed the leak. Prv seems to have a additional screw which apparently adjusts spring pressure in it, it had screwed out just a little so after adjusting it, it seems to have worked and prv doesn't realease pressure after 25psi.

Thanks
