Thanks. Next weekend is going to be nice and busy :) (Seeing sister this w/end so can't brew)

Saturday will be spent drilling the bucket. Will probably end up in town with the wife later that afternoon. (It will be our Aniversary weekend afterall). Sunday will then be spent brewing my first AG brew.

I have been so patient. Can't wait to get started :D

Wife has confirmed that delivery part 1 has arrived. So, I'll now be able to make my Mash Tun.

Tomorrow I should get all my grain and remaining kit (Chiller) so will be fully ready to start my first AG brew at the weekend. I just hope the wife has no plans for the Sunday as I want this to be my brew day!

tell her that you're brewing that day, end of story. give her a credit card and send her off into to town.... just neglect to inform her said credit card is in fact maxed out. :D

but bere in mind that this trick only works once! so use it carefully.

hehe. Got rid of my Credit Card. Caused me waaaayyy too many problems in the past.

SWMBO is quite cool when it comes to the beer making.

The taps I got for the fermenter are bigger than I was expecting so have had to place another order for some tubing. Called shop up directly and was pleasantly surprised when told that she will send the tubing out at cost :) Ordered 3 times as much as I was going to since it is so cheap :D

QUOTE (jasonaustin @ Jul 14 2006, 08:40 AM) My tun has 2mm holes about 15-20mm apart.
Just checked my drill bits and it looks like I have broken the 2mm at some point :(

I have a 1.5mm and a 2.5mm

I would assume that the 1.5mm would be too small and almost encourage a stuck sparge. Would the 2.5mm be too big? I should be able to buy a 2mm drill bit (assuming you can buy them individually) but if it saves me a trip to B&Q for such a small thing then I'll avoid if possible :)

i recon 2.5 would be fine, if anything it'll just take longer before the run off becomes clear, but thats all.

I agree, it'll be fine. Just checked in Wheeler and he uses 3mm.

I have started to use the outer bucket as a primary fermenter. With the position of the tap, I lose about 1.5 litres of liquid. This is PERFECT. Most of the trub sits in this portion so I can rack really well. There is a tiny amount of beer left which I can then mix with the trub to save the yeast. I could ask for better positioning :D
