King Keg Capacities

Post by Bigster » Fri Jul 14, 2006 8:34 pm

I have a bottom tap king keg with the level about 10mm above the top of the tap thread - anyone know how much beer is left roughly ( I'm guessing not a lot but my old budget barrels seemed to go on for ever from that point but the tap is a lot lower on the KK )

Thanks daab :beer - good thinking. Shouldnt be too much bother with disturbing sediment as this was the abbot with the dry hop problem and expanding barrel that had to find a new home ( KK). Only problem is I dont have digital scales that cope with anything over 2kg - will see if neighbours have tomorrow.

Blimey 10 pts were left.

based on that I reckon that KK could hold 50 to 60 pints :stun

That's what made me give up using pressure barrels and go over to cornys - with a corny, there's barely half a pint wasted.

I have given 4pts of those 10 away today and will have a go at the rest over the next few days and see whats left - but agree there will be more wastage than 1/2pt

1L water = 1kg in weight @ std' temp and pressure

:(

Farewell Abbot - there were almost 3 pts left when I emptied the barrel.

That was a great beer. :D

Is £40 a good price for a recon corny ?

Cheers Daab, so thats norm is it. I've seen him crop up in other links about cornies. I was thinking of getting the batch of 4 cornies from one of the American links but a few of the guys on the forum have had problems so I've read!

King Keg Top Tap users - My Keg is empty first brew gone, what quantity of beer should you normally expect to be left in the bottom of the the Keg when the tap runs dry and blows Co2. I was left with nearly 1.5 litres - what a waste can this be bottled and primed? and enjoyed another day, I was expecting a little waste this seems a lot to to pour down the drain.

If you carefully tip the king keg barrel backwards when it is nearly empty, not disturbing the sediment you should get at least another 2 pints out of it. This enables the float to sit under the brew enabling it to be drawn off. When your barrel is empty, put a few pints of water in, fit your float, leave the cap off, slowly tip it back & you will see what I mean.

I too do not like the thought of throwing out beer if I can avoid doing so!
