Fermenting Barrel- Airlock

I have been using a Young’s fermenting barrel and it has an airlock hole, two new barrels I have bought don’t. I brewed two different kits yesterday one is gurgling away very reassuringly the other is of course silent, should I occasionally release the lid and release the pressure? :?: :?:

I meant buckets. I‘ve opened the lid a crack. Should I snap it down when fermentation slows down?
