Actually I think the slippery slope of insanity is that thing that slopes up behind you. The one in front of you is the slippery slope of so-barking-fcuking-mad-I've-started-giving-names-to-kitchen-utensils.

Nice stirrer though :D
Just laughed out loud reading that boingy, you`ve just made my day, its been a fairly shit one so that was
a welcomed bit of humor :D

Strapped an old bathroom display cabinet to the side of my 'general tat' shelving unit and suddenly i have my wooden table back beside the mash tun. Sometimes the simple things have the greatest impact!

I have also been slowly homing in on the kit i need to introduce a type of Hop torpedo into the brewery for the times when enough hops just isn't enough. The water filter will be coming offshore with me next week for modification to fulfill that role. Hope to have it up and running in the new year.

Oh yes,

Up and working for the past couple of years( I think). I am planning on building a log-cabin down the bottom of the garden to house the brewer and a gym to free up room in the garage for a midlife crisis motor. Are you fancying a build yourself? Loads of builds on this site and plenty people who will help you along.

I am.. I hope, now finished with my brewery (for the time being) :) literally just thrown it together. Nothing fancy, just a solid 5 gallon set up, I must say i am in awe of how much kit you got for that cheap! This AG set up must be rolling up to the £200 mark without much, if any issue.
A crisis motor? 2 wheels or 4 is the question?

Thanks for that, the price was driven by much obsessive ebaying and the ability to build what i wanted myself. I'm sure you will have built a nice set up for £200. As long as it puts out good beer it doesn't have to be bonny!(mine certainly isn't). 4 wheels sadly and probably an old 964 or 993, proper crisis motor!

I'm sure that swagelok ballvalve and the 10K compresion fittings didn't come cheap.
Or did they?

You must be looking in the same skips as me!! A few bits and some 1/2" control line have found their way into mine.
Went to buy some from TIS in dyce and nearly had a heart attack when the bill came back.

Sounds like it. Environmentally friendly, recycling, beer brewing oilfield trash (this is me i am speaking about). It all makes sense. I use flexible lines for my overback recirculation and also for recirculation of the wort post boil for clarification through the hop bed. 1/2 S/S control lines fixed in place would look good!

For me Its all about using what's to hand and lateral thinking, i enjoy the challenge. Shop bought just doesn't do it for me, i like my ugly beauty! :)

Thats bloody good going to be fair, so you power that monsterous sized kettle on 2 x 3kw elements? Thats bloody good going how long does that take? I didn't think they'd have it in em.
And might i ask, where on earth did you find all the giant containers? every time i've looked just out of interest theyre always a billion quid each!

The kettle elements power the hot liquor tank, i recirculate the HLT to ensure even heating of the liquor. It take about 30 minutes to bring 60ltrs of tap temp up to 80 degs C. The kettle is heated by a Bayou classic turkey fryer gas burner as sold by these guys. I chopped down the height of it and strengthened the legs to take the kettle weight. The kettle was a hell of a find, no great story, it was on Ebay and if i remember correctly someone on JBK pointed it out in Ebay for sale section. Luck and timing on that one. Some guys Granny had been using it as a water butt! I took it to my local fab shop and they welded in the two fittings i supplied for a 6 pack of HB(maybe it was a dozen). Ebay and OCD are our friends, :)
