I thought I'd like to add a bigger tap as the boiler seems to take an age to empty (yes, I'm impatient)

However, having read another thread here about chipping the enamel being a right PITA I think I'll leave it as it is.

Hop strainer pics to follow! (when I get 'round to it).

Got mine! (Yay!)

Ran the test boil! Works! (Yay!)

But there is a nasty chip on the rim, so will exchange for a pure one. (Boo!)

I'll get myself a bag and sort out the chill after the snow has cleared. Then it's brewtime!
Needs more Cowbell.

Anyone got any more tips on turning the collar thingie? I've taken the dial off with no issues but the collar refuses to budge. I'm itching to try my first AG brew!

Thanks

I hope it shifted the collar ok, let us know how you get on.
No hurry to get it back, keep it until you are happy with the results - there is no queue!

Hi just did my first BIAB today using one of these, all went well up until the boil, it was on the brink of the hot break when it cut out.I'd done the mod mentioned earlier in the thread now i'm not sure if it ct out because of the temperature or has just gone kaput.

Anyone any ideas or advice?

Cheers

It just cut out? as in no more heat at all, or all the lights went out, and no further action?

No lights could mean a fuse has gone.

The light working, but no heat could be the element. There is also a thermal fuse right next to the temp pick up, both held upto the base of the pot with a big spring.

Element broke in mine, Luckily it was on being used as a hlt at the time!

The light went out and it stopped making a noise and no more heat, it didn't come back on either after an hour.I'd done the mod on it by turning the collar, it's definitely anti-clockwise isn't it?

Sounds that way..

Have you checked the main fuse?
Do you have a multimeter?
Could check for continuity of the element, if that's ok then if it's getting power.

I replaced the fuse in the plug but still no joy, don't think I have a multimeter.

not sure if this helps but my washing machine/tumble drier stoped working one day and when I took it apart it turned out to be a (reset-able) thermostat had cut out due to fluff building up on the fan ducting and causing localised heat build up. The thermostat was oval ish in shape with a button shaped centre. Right in the very cente was a tiny hole that allowed a paper clip to be inserted to re-set it.
You also get a similar thing on kettles and nowadays on immersion coolers. Have a look around the electrics for a cylindrical shaped piece of metal around 1cm across.
My only other thought is that if you turn the thermostate when you modified it the wrong way then you might have turned the temperature to turn power on to below tap water temperature hence it will never provide power - see if turning it back to it's original position somehow brings the boiler back to life - then, if so turn it even futher the other way to allow it to boil instead of cut out early.

Hi all,

Does anyone know if this offer is still on? If I Google 'Lidl Jam Preserver' I can find the item (http://www.lidl.co.uk/cps/rde/xchg/SID- ... =1&nf=True), but I can't find it if I just navigate through the site.

Does anyone know the best way to check if a store has the item in stock? I've messaged the customer services but can't find any local store numbers online (anywhere in London would do!)

Thanks,
Richard
