So i've played around with the boiler but still no joy so my next option is the 3 year warranty. The only problem is I bought off ebay as brand new and as per a previous post the manufacturer will probably want a receipt befre agreeing to a replacement or repair.
Does anyone know where I stand with this or have advice as to the est way to get this resolved?

Cheers

And when they get it back and look at it and see it's been modified...

I think when I do upgrade, I shall keep this one, ideal for experimenting with.
Needs more Cowbell.

My element broke, so fitted a burco boiler element into the base. The thermostat had to be moved, and is now way off. It's only for my hlt so it needs some sort of temp control

No Dougal, those cows are far away, this cow is very small :D

Seriosuly though, good job on the boiler. Did you manage to get a brew done on it yet?

I contacted the company and was told they'd send a new one out to me provided I could send the proof of purchase.Would my ebay one count or is a warranty void if ownership is transferred?

The ebay seller wasn't much good, said it wasn't her as it was so long ago(3 months)

No, that is the hlt now, the new shiny 50l pot is up and running as the new boiler. It's now complete and tested :)

You could try your ebay receipt, not sure if that'd count as one of their retailers though.

Been in touch with manufacturers, they won't accept the ebay receipt and the original seller doesn't have the Lidl one anymore.Seems a bit of a con as i'm sure they could check how old it is by using the serial number. They said unless I can provide a scan(Do people still have scanners?) of my Lidl receipt then it's no go, shame really as it was perfect for doing BIAB with.

Well, seeing as it's now broken and non returnable. take it apart and see if it's anything obvious. It was easy to spot that the element in mine had broken.

Where in the country are you? maybe someone nearby knows a bit more about electrics and can help poke around it? If you were in/near Aberdeen I'd offer!

Cheers for the offer Rich but i'm in Leeds.I did think it might be possible to re-use the pot as it comes off cleanly, either on the stove or fit an element to it though the enamel could prove an obstacle as far as drilling goes.

You can get a little bottle of enamel repair paint. There was that much enamel came of mine thanks to my cack handed attempts to drill a hole that it looked like a global warming video of ice sheets. Stuff works like a charm :)

Purchased one of these for £30 and did a trial run with water tonight. Reaching 100C and then switching off so not quite a rolling boil but I was wondering - can I leave the lid on during the boiling period? Was thinking this will retain heat and also reduce the loss of water - any downside to keeping the lid on as I know cuts off before overspill?

As far as I'm aware you need the lid off. This helps get rid of "nasty stuff" with the lid on, said nasty stuff can not escape.

I boil with the lid on and have never had a problem, reduces loss due to evaporation.

Got one today, seems about 5degrees low across the range, and tops out at 97(ish), according to ErIndoors's jam thermometer.
That was half full of water, and it managed about 1degree/minute.
Will try another calibration run before I attempt to tweak it as it may have wanted to burn-in.
