Ahh, forgotten about that, for this build it was a 3/8 3piece ballvalve, only reason for choosing the 3/8 size was due to the lack of space in the bottom of the boiler for a 1/2 outlet so to keep everything the same bore a 3/8 fitting was used. If you are only using this as a boiler I would simply go 1/2". You will need to enlarge the existing tap hole regardless of fiting.

Just a quick update on this one, due to a lack of available time, I`ve now sold the BreadMaker on to another member (friend of a well known poster on JBK) he works with Electronics for a living so the next chapter in the BreadMaker`s life can begin.

Hope to see how things progress on JBK :)

They do this so you dont buy it. They're out of stock, but it costs nothing to amend the price, but removing the item and replacing it later costs.

Glad to say my 50/50 (MO/ Wheat) + Flyer turned out well - very drinkable but the flyer hops could do with a kick of something or doubling up on the amount used.

Well as you have your thermo pot & other pot on order perhaps the bendable element build and skirtS might be the quickest option, just depends if there is enough room in the two diameters for the element.

It would be nice to see a thermopot build in the future.

either that or find another boiler internal diameter 340 / 360 mm

I was thinking along those lines too. Pots have arrived and I'm thinking I'll keep the 60L and perhaps get a custom made 'malt tube' to fit. There's just not enough room between the 60L thermo (40cm diameter) and 33L (35cm diameter) pot for an element I don't think.

From memory, in the original 20L BM there's something like a 4cm gap between the inner and outer? Therefore, would it make sense to get a custom tube 32cm diameter to fit the 40cm diameter of the thermo??? My only concern is that I might be missing some important surface area/volume ratio between the two pots that should be maintained for it to be effective/efficient...but maybe I'm just being paranoid?! :?

I've seen a few people have used these:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HE7230-72-6ft ... 1e7a2c1f2d

Are they OK for boiling wort? The 60L thermo has a circumference of approx 125cm so I thought I might go for one of the 3kW, 96 inch versions and loop it twice around. Do you think 3kW is man enough for the job? (I only intend to make 5 gallon batches). I want to avoid higher kW really as 3KW is probably starting to push it on 13A supply. I guess I could install 2 separate 2kW elements and run them off separate rings though. Hmmm....

In my opinion I would go for a lesser wattage say 2.5kw is more than ample.

The only thing about reducing the diameter of the malt tube as such is that you will reduce the capacity of grain - unless you make it higher - then you might encounter pump problems with the extra height - needs some more thought me thinks.

Cheers

The last order for the mechanical/plumbing bits has gone in, all that is outstanding is the seal, the relay and the electrical plugs/sockets.:)

I'm hoping to use a bit of split silicone tube around the bottom of the malt pipe.
