Thanks DaaB, that's probably it. I usually just flush the CFC with cold water but perhaps I ought to run some soda crystal solution through it too. No excuse for the fermenter, probably rinsed but forgot to clean it last brew

When i used to run the rugby club bar we had idiot proof line cleaner.It was diluted with water and had a purple dye in it which sat in the lines for between 10-15 mins after which you pulled some through if it came through clear there was no presence of bacteria and you then just flushed with water but if it was still purple you let it sit for another 10 mins and tried again.
Can't remember the name of it but was available in the likes of Bookers(wholesalers a bit like Makro)

That sounds quite handy.
Do you know what its called?
I think Norm used to use it to sanitise the cornies he sold. I remember a there being a little purple residue in them when they arrived.

The one i used definately was purple until lines were clean then turned clear.obviously different makes behave differently ....sorry can't remember the brand.
