Either way the tap shank doesn't look to be 50mm long and that doesn't even allow for clearance for turning the tap,
That's right the inner hole is around 28mm, just right for the tap thread to go through with the flange sitting against the outside.
I was trying to do this on the cheap with existing stuff in my garage, but if I have to spend a few quid so be it. Is a tank connector viable with a 28mm hole? I have a Screwfix & B&Q just round the corner from me so might take a look.
Another idea I had was sawing the shank off another tap & gluing them together for an extra long shank, but I suspect epoxy resin isn't food safe, another option would be to heat the two cut ends & weld them together. An interesting challenge awaits.

Perhaps that's not so handy for fly sparging, though.
That looks brilliant, what fittings are used?

It's a 1/2" John Guest Stem Elbow Connector pushed into a 1/2" John Guest Bulk-head Connector. But -- I've just measured -- the latter needs a 25mm hole so might be too small for you... :(

Problems solved gents....

One tank connector with 22mm pushfit (I pretended not to see the words "cold water only" on it :o )

All the components ready to go in. I think I'll tap up my plumber mate for some spare 15mm copper & replace the plastic...

All assembled...

I think I'll tap him up for some 22mm too, just the reducer is pushed in the fitting & it wobbles a bit.

There was a leak when I tested it, if you look at the 3rd picture there is a ridge in the plastic, I have ground & chiseled this down, but not quite enough, tomorrow's job.
Wish I knew about the tank connector before I drilled & used a 15mm, never mind.

What do you think?

You've done a good job by the looks of it!

Tank connectors, compression fittings etc confuse me no end - I'm slowly learning.

Looks very good, I wouldn't worry about the plastic, I think it's the first I've seen on here, when the mash warms it up it will sit nicely on the tun floor.

Good work
