Yeah, it was a bit like that yesterday. I used to use the kitchen scales until I started doing 10 gallon batches. It'd take all day to measure out 12 kg in 250g steps

Ah, right. Fair enough. To be honest the scales gets pretty full once you pass the 1/2lb mark, which is fine for weighing speciality grains and hops. If I go all grain I might have to get something bigger.

i use these and cannot fault them - they measure in gram increments as well which is good for those accurate small amounts but still have a 5kg max load. Pretty cheap compared to some ive seen.

5kg...thats handy. do they run on proper batteries and not those watch/button batteries which run out quickly?
Get one that runs off a wall wart.

OK i'll bite...whats a wall wart?
Wallwarts are a fairly recently discovered infection, in the last 10-15yrs there has been an outbreak of them.

Some are permanent and are difficult to remove and most people end up ignoring them; others are less permanent appearing every so often and then disappear soon after. Being parasitic they feed on your power supply.

We all have them if fact we can’t live without them, There transformers BaaB’s powering all manner of things, scales, radios, routers mobiles dam ugly but useful.

I have some digital kitchen scales however I want to replace them as I don't think they are very accurate....

I recently weighed some Ginger Root and it weighed in at about 300g (can't remember exact figures). So, I split the batch in half. The first half weighed 150g as you would expect. I then compared by weighing the other batch. 175g.... I had gained 25g of Ginger. I combined the 2 lots again and re-weighed. 300g. Split 150g & 175g. Either REALLY inaccurate or a result of a dying battery (damn oversized watch battery style).

For my grain I'm going to use the bathroom scales. For the hops I think I'll look into buying some new scales (I guess I could just change the batteries - might bee cheaper! - We have had them for about 5 years!!!)

What a fantastic idea. I have a 1.5 litre jug so I'll weigh that.

Such simple ideas but never considered until some bright spark comes along :)

Thanks DaaB

I've got several jugs of varying sizes so any of them will do the job perfectly :) I'll see which one is most convinent for the weighing and use that :D
