DaaB, I think were talking 2 different things...
I'm looking at a water filter system but I'm not sure what I can get away with. I really want ~5micron filtration because this removes most microbes and particuarly protozoan cysts which survive chlorine treatment. Would this kind of filtration work with mains pressure water? Would I really need a pump to suck the water through at a decent rate?
This is particulate filtration.....isn't it ?

Sorry DaaB, missed you through typing.

These filters are very good.

I live in a heavily chlorinated area. I used to keep very expensive koi carp (£100 for an egg) so risking such delicate commodities was not an option.

My water stinks of chlorine and these filters remove all 'noseable' trace, if there is such a thing, but more importantly the fish lived!

I'll try to find a more 'credible' link, though the only ones who would substantiate their claims were the RO guys!

I looked at similar ones to yours Andy (water gem amongst others) but the flow rate on most was 3ltr per min which was too slow for me.
Andy , just connected up the B&Q filter and a load of ink coloured water  came out before running clear. It said to expect a little cloudy due to dust but understating it somewhat :)

2 questions:

Does the filter need to be kept upright?
The flow rate was far greater than I expected ( more like 15 litres a minute - is there an optimum flow rate ?

Cheers :D

I didn't get any ink when I first used mine! 8) I always flush it through for 30 secs or so each time I use it... And I do keep it vertical when in use.

I don't get anywhere like 15 litres/min though, perhaps half that but it is connected to the other end of a 30m hose with the flow set pretty low.
