also, just another quickie, i've seen one of those brown boots barrels at the dump, can you get lids for these?

You sure can. I bought one today from the LHBS £6.50 complete with S30 valve.

thanks daab, i think i've got me head round all those seals now thanks to you. i think they sell them in a pack for about £3 at my local hardware shop with their small homebrew section.

Sorry if I was a little a little vague I just took my old, knackered lid to my LHBS (Local Home Brew Shop) And said " 'ere mate got wonna these?" he delved in his little magic box and hey presto
