My bespoke Japanese garden brewshed with pics!
Re: My bespoke Japanese garden brewshed with pics!
I hoped everyone would think it looks ok - kind of drives you when building it!
Re: My bespoke Japanese garden brewshed with pics!
Glad to see my old Lincat urn has found a good home

Re: My bespoke Japanese garden brewshed with pics!
That looks a great set up!
Well done indeed!

Re: My bespoke Japanese garden brewshed with pics!
Well spotted johnmac - it did indeed! You have a keen eye..
I am having a lot of trouble fitting an element into the 40mm hole though as I was silly enough not to read any articles on doing this.. I butchered the element housing so much that I am going to buy a new kettle and try again!

So your wife has a bulldozer? That really was the birthday gift you should never have bought!!mctoon wrote:You cant possibly be married!!!!, SWMBO would bulldoze it down if that was my set up,,,,

Re: My bespoke Japanese garden brewshed with pics!
Yes I am married... neglected my wife for weeks building it. Thankfully shed is next door to our house so she is happy that I'm within calling distance!
Re: My bespoke Japanese garden brewshed with pics!
Thanks again for positive comments, has made it all worthwhile!
Re: My bespoke Japanese garden brewshed with pics!
Great looking shed there Stephen, one of the most original designs I have seen.
I use a March pump for all my transferring of liquor and water, but for the spinny sparger I pump my hotter than needed sparge water up into another vessel above all the setup and let gravity do it's thing and feed the arm, I've never tried it but I reckon the pump would be far too powerful to supply the spinny arm direct, but I may be wrong. I have control over how fast it sparges as well by opening and closing the tap on the high up vessel.stephenfranks wrote:I am pumping horizontally between MT and boiler using a March May mag pump. Will I have a problem when sparging using spinny arm with such low volume of water being pumped? Will the mag pump be OK or will I have to batch sparge?
Re: My bespoke Japanese garden brewshed with pics!
WOW! That is truly a quality brewhouse! Something for us all to aspire to! Can I ask what the fitting on the right next to the tap on your MT is on the close up pic?
again well done that man!

again well done that man!

Re: My bespoke Japanese garden brewshed with pics!
Do you mean to the right of the tap on the HLT? Thats the only vessel I have fitted a tap to so far? If this is what you mean it is a brass bung 1/2" BSP (fitted by previous owner johnmac). Not sure what he used it for though. John?
Garth - the spinny will be fed by gravity (HLT is elevated - see pic) the pump is for pumping wort from mash tun to boiler only - horizontally. I am not sure if when sparging (bear in mind I have never done an AG brew before) using a spinny if the pump is too large and not enough liquid makes it into the pump chamber to pump it (pump will be under MT for priming). What do you think?

Re: My bespoke Japanese garden brewshed with pics!
Just looked at pictures..
If you mean the pic with hoses I shall explain how it works/fittings.
Inside the cavity a cold water feed turns 90 degrees via an elbow, some 15mm chrome plated copper, a 15mm butterfly valve then a compression to 1/2" BSP 300mm stainless braided hose. This will then have a 1/2" male stainless stud coupling to compression which will connect to my stainless immersion chiller. The water exits the chiller via the same type of fittings (hose 2 without the valve) to drain.
Hope this helps?
