Thanks Orfy, I'll have to have another look at those

I also come of my taps at an angle, so will have to use a similar idea to yours

Can anyone tell me what those long brass fittings are called?
Thems the buggers I need but I have never seen them.

Nipples.

I beg your pardon...

That is a long nipple, and I thought nipples had tapered threads. That one looks to have a parallel thread, in fact it must do to have locking nuts run up and down it.

Yep nipples do have a tapered thread but if you ask for a brass nipple at a plumbers merchant that's what you'll get.

The female version of it is called a coupler.

It seems a lot of US keggles come with couplers welded in but I have put nipples in mine, it means less adapters to screw compression joints on.

I've just fitted a new valve to my boiler. I used a normal length parallel nipple, one end in the valve the other locked off with a 22mm compression to 1 inch BSP adapter. That way it is held firm and I can connect the 22mm hop stopper easily.

I had to go 1 inch as the original valves on my boilers were really crappy 1 inch jobs.

This is what it looks like fitted. I don't have any photos of the individual parts but I used...

1 inch BSP Ball Valve
1 inch BSP Parallel nipple
22mm (compression) to 1 inch BSPF adapter
1 inch to 1/2 inch BSP hexagon reducing bush
1/2 inch BSPM to 1/2 inch hose barb

They cost £20.29 (plus VAT probably) each.

Not too bad, I reckon.
