Thanks. I use the fly-sparge technique and to see inside the mash tun is just a matter of propping the lid up with a couple of bits of wood, most of the time I just leave it enclosed and take a peek every now and then. The manifold appears to work just as well with a fast or slow flow as long as the cuts are not too close together.

There's was a Phils 7" hanging on the wall in my LBS recently. A bit dusty but they'd had a couple sitting there for years, and sold me one for a tenner.

You could try giving them a ring - I'd bet its still there as they are mainly known as a can kit based outfit.

They are super helpful, and you send the cheque once you've received the goods  8)

i may be commiting blasphemy here but had i not bought a rotating arm i feel that i may have got as good, or even better, results from a sprinkler head from a watering can. granted i would have had to stand over it while the sparge went on but the results may have been more even . what do others think?

eBay, quick Andy, it's time to retire

I didn't even get to use my first one, I was a little rough with it and bent it, got a replcement straightaway from H&G and I'm glad too..

Colin, I agree with you there, a rotating arm in a square cool box and bits can get missed, I move mine from one end to the other about half way through to cover all the grain bed.

a spinny sparger does look more impressive though i have to admit, especially with a full three tier set up . people actually think i know what im doing when they see mine set up :D

Moving from remashing to using spinny sparger has improved the quality of my brew day no end - can just leave it to get on with it (especially using the Road Runner patented peg trick to slow done the flow  )

I'm afraid I can't help you about the spinny sparger. I use Hop & Grape and they're always helpful, I suspect they'd be able to get you one in if you emailed them.

I'm sure they do the same job as Frothy's fly sparge set up but they are quite mesmorizing to look at  - whenever I invite someone along to a brew day, oddly enough its the spinny sparger that they're most impressed with.

Good luck with the transition to all-grain.

:D Could anyone put a photo of the three tier spinney sparge arm on this tread so i can see what bits you need to make one and what is the cheapest way to buy or make an insulated mash tun ?

Got my spinny thingy from the homebrew shop in Farnborough was in there yesterday could of looked if I had known.
Making one can't be that difficult. i mean the holes in the arms aren't exactly presicion drilled. Mine looks like a monkey did it. Certainly not jig drilled.
With my workshop equipment I could make a killing!!

They've taken the spinys off the Farnborough shop www site so I guess if they've any left then they won't get replaced.

Oh, and if you have any problems finding a cool box, I got mine
from these guys and was happy with the service.
Maybe it's because it's winter, or maybe because Thermos are pushing
their soft cool bags these days, but the plastic cool boxes seem much
thinner on the ground these days.

Come summer time you'll be tripping over the things in the shops.

I got mine from Argos, similar to this:-

But mine's a Thermos one rather than the above no-brand version.
